The World

It all started with a cold night in December. A night which would be pretty much like any other night, were it not for what happened. Some say it was quantum physics, some say it was aliens. And others still say that their religious books tell them it is a sign of the End Times. And while no-one is completely sure what the truth about the event really is, one thing remains very clear. This wasn't a natural event. Thousands of people around the world don't just vanish into thin air, let alone at exactly the same time.

It wasn't something any of us could do anything about, though historically there were numerous warnings. So we all took a deep breath and buried it in the back of our minds. Those of us who remained got back to daily business as best we could, but our happy state of denial didn't last long. Just a few days later, a war broke out between Russia and China after one accused the other of launching an intercontinental missile. The relationship between the two countries had been on thin ice since the disappearances, so it came to no surprise to the UN that they would be at each others' throats at the first potential sign of an attack, even if it was really just some kind of meteor shower, as scholors tried to assure.

It wasn't long after that the sun went dark, its rays mostly choked out by some kind of volcanic dust or ash. Thankfully, it didn't leech the oxygen out of the air as scholors feared it would. But what it brought with it was no less horrifying. A few people at a time, seemingly at random, would suddenly fall ill and die within days. All the while fierce electrical storms tore through the darkened sky, wreaking havoc on our communications while the compasses used for navigation by so many were rendered useless. And that wasn't the worst of things. Unexplainably, the earth's rotation was slowing down.

Now, so many years after all these strange things started happening, Earth lives on. As does humanity, if you could really call it that. What was once the continent of North America is now two. The West and the East. The United States is no more. I was lucky to be on vacation in the Appalachans at the time of the big upset, and so I survived, though barely. After a short time of wandering from one disaster aid camp to another, I was inducted into service by a faction of the former US government who referred to themselves as the Ministry of Peace. It was either join them or die at the hands of rioting mobs, really. I can't say I don't regret choosing the latter option.

I fought, or rather, my creations fought in the Third Great War. And so, because of me, the Ministry rose to power. There's not a day which goes by that I don't regret my cowardice. But finding my courage now would only destroy any hope I have of ever making ammends, and going to the afterlife with a clear conscience. So despite it all, I must stay where I am. Perhaps from here I can aid those with purer hearts than I, so that they might succeed in bringing down this monster I helped create.

Below is a map of the facility where I work, located somewhere under the mountains of North Carolina. I am not sure where, exactly. I hope you find it useful. Perhaps if you need something else, you can get it to me through the Wysteria Vine. Just tell them that your question is for Tailor.
