 Y-13: Chapter Two
This is chapter two of the Y-13 RP series. The morphs awaken to confront the reality of their new forms. Will they find peace? Only time will tell...

Narrator wrote:
After being in a mysterious coma for over a week, the morphs begin to awaken. Dr. Varu, a man who lost his eye in a crazed attempt to complete the experiment ahead of schedule had been given a mandatory leave of absence pending a review and investigation by the Ministry's high council. So much hype had been stirred up about the pending 'terrorist' attack on the facility, but it turned out to be little more than a prank. Varu's last argument to avoid investigation had fizzled, leaving him little choice but to obey the wishes of the Ministry. Sent in his place is an old geneticist named Dr. McDermott.

RP Log: Reawakening
Static.. just bursts of static. Loud and bright, and agonizing, like shocks,
jolting through his entire body. One minute he had been somewhere else, or at
least he thought. Alex lets out a weak groan, the 'static' echoing in his head
becoming like a dull roar in his ears. The recently-turned feline keeps his
eyes closed for the time being, thinking it best to let himself become more
conscious before doing anything else. Gradually, the roaring subsides,
replaced by the gentle rushing sound of a table fan, and the intermittent
beeping of EKG machines. Was he back in the lab? It certainly felt like it,
the soft clench of straps around his wrists beginning to register as he slowly
grew more aware of his surroundings. "Figures..." he mumbles, sleepily.

Belumine opens his eyes blearily, eyes staring up at the strange ceiling above.
For what seemed like hours the ferret looked on, eyes half open and body
feeling stiff. He also became aware that he felt almost completely numb, limbs
little more than useless masses of muscle and bone for the time being.
Finally, Belumine sweeps his eyes off of the ceiling, the feeling of numbness
slowly giving way to a substantial aching deep in his muscles. In attempting
to turn sideways, the ferret notices he is strapped down much as Alex is, the
thick restraints more than sufficient to keep him in place. His ears perk at
the faint mumbling, trying to open his mouth in response. "Wh...who's there?
Where am I...Who..."

The strange sounds and smells coming back into strong focus were nothing to the
itch..Had she been dreaming all this time? Alex, Aleyn..They had both seemed
so real. And that jerk, Dr. Varu. That couldn't have been a dream. As she
started to piece together everything that had happened, Skrap started thinking
more about the itch..Strange? She could feel the scales all over her. The
feathers on the back of her neck were what was itching so much! They weren't
meant to be crushed against a..Whatever she was on..She tried to lift a hand
to scratch the back of her neck and found that she was strapped down. An
angry lashing movement made her aware that she had a tail, and the growl of
frustration that came from her throat was cut short as she heard someone
talking..Her once blue eyes snap open, slit pupils among an orange burst focus
on the ceiling and she tugs a bit at the straps, baring a mouthful of sharp
teeth in irritation when she finds the straps won't budge. She calms down and
looks around, focusing past the long muzzle to the room around her, "Who's
there?" She mutters in a scratchy voice that doesn't sound like her at all,
"Aleyn? Alex?" She calls out the two names that she remembers above the
others.

Marcus seems to be slowly coming out of a similar experience to Alex. He moans
a bit as he makes his return to consciousness. His eyes finally flutter open,
and he raises a hand to wipe the junk from them. Or he would, except his
hands are now paws, and they are both strapped down. "Hmm? Wha? Who's
there?" He looks around with his golden eyes, searching for faces to match
voices to. Or at least the new voice. He recognizes Skrap and Alex already.
"Are we back in the lab again?" he asks, although he is convinced by now they
are.

Alex's ears perk up a bit in response to the voices and sounds around him.
Wait.. ears perked? Alex's eyes blink open, squinting as his sensitive eyes
adjust to the light, coming to realize that at least part of what he'd thought
was a dream might have actually been real. He peers around the lab, forcing
the shock of this revelation into the back of his mind for now while he
searches for the source of the voices, his long feline tail flicking from side
to side. "Urrgh.. Looks like it.." he replies to Marcus, with a bit of a
sullen grumble in his voice. Or was that a growl? Alex himself is a bit taken
aback by the varied tones in his voice, folding his ears back momentarily. At
least until the familiarity of those voices begins to register. "...Skrap? M..
Marcus?" he calls, hesitating, as Belumine's voice is just so familiar, yet he
can't seem to put a name to it, "It's me. Alex."

Belumine tries to relax, an unbidden sense of panic beginning to grow within
his mind. He brings his eyes to each of his fellow in turn, desperately
attempting to remember how he came to be here, strapped to this bed... There
was a bright light, yes...and then flying high over the landscape. He shook
his head as best he could, strapped to the bed, and focused instead on the
immediate question his mind. "A...Alex?" he says, the voice almost
disturbingly familiar, like one of an old and half-forgotten friend. "Who are
you all? Where am I? Why am I here?" he asks, though not yet in a panicked
tone. "Mrff...why's it always so bright..."

Skrap lets out a breath of relief when she hears Alex's voice. And Marcus.
It's short-lived though. "Do any of you notice anything..Uh.." She searched
for a word to describe the tail, the scales, the feathers, and the strange
muzzle that she could see.. "Different..About yourselves?" She felt stupid
saying it, but couldn't keep from saying it.. "I think..Don't laugh! I think
I have a tail..." She stretches her neck out a bit so that she can look at
herself better. "I'm..Covered in scales.." She mutters, closing her eyes to
contain the panic.

Marcus nods at the familiar voices, "Yes, I'm here Alex." He can't quite put
his claw on it, but the strange voice sounds like one he should know, too. He
looks down over himself as best he can despite the straps and says, "Yes
Skrap. I'm not laughing. This isn't some sick joke. I think we're...changed
like this. I have a tail, too," he finishes, looking at his brush twitching
nervously. "My question is why did they do this to us?"

Alex mrrfs softly, craning his neck to look himself over as well. He then
sighs, closing his eyes for a moment as he lays his head back down, only to
stare crosseyed at his whiskery muzzle. "..Yeah.. I have a tail too .. and
fur." he calls back to Skrap. "I .. don't feel so well, now.." The feline
morph closes his eyes again, doing his best to take slow breaths to quell his
nausea.
-
A few moments later, the sound of a door creaking open can be heard,
accompanied by the gruff, weathered voice of an old man. "A don't give a rat's
backside what the General said. If 'e old seadog wants to tell me how to do my
job he can come down here and tell me 'imself!" exclaims Dr. McDermott, the
facility's fill-in chief doctor. He leans heavily on his cane, looking at the
medical charts for the kids, the clipboard shaking slightly in his grasp.
McDermott surveys the room momentarily, his eyes settling on that
anthropomorphs strapped to the beds before him. "Oi... the character Varu
really did a number on 'em, din't 'e?" he mutters, a warm chuckle finding its
way into his voice.

Siona had followed the old man into the lab. Her species' attributes were
hidden, and she took the form of a sharp, observant woman in a labcoat. Her
hair was a short ear lengthed brown bob, and she held a writing tray with
several papers attached to it, her pen was held off hand as she took in the
state of this crazy old fart's test subjects. She moved her pen hand to adjust
the rim of her glasses a bit. Siona took her role in the background, and
merely waited for instructions while trying to fight back the small rage that
was trying to claw it'self through her at the sight in front of her. Her gaze
was cold, and she made no attempt to show emotion.

Belumine almost perks his brow at these somewhat amusing comments, finding
nothing strange about his company's appearance. "Yeah...I have a tail
too...but there isn't anything strange about having one, is there?" he says,
growing a little confused. As the door opens as the gruff voice of the doctor
sounds throughout the room, Belumine's heart begins to race, eyes fixing on
the old man standing there.
-
Two nurses dressed in matching lab coats walk behind the doctor, attentive for
his instruction. One files in to stand at each of his sides, two sets of eyes
roaming around the room with mild curiosity. One is a calm-looking young woman
with short auburn hair and brown eyes and a light, airy body build. The other
is an older, middle-aged woman with slightly more muscle and blonde hair tied
back in a bun, deep blue eyes looking around. "All right, sir." she says in a
loud voice, "What do you want us to do?" The other nurse remains silent,
looking a little nervous with hands behind her back.

Skrap's tail curls over her body so that she can get a better look at it until
she hears the door open and an old man speak. She relaxes a bit, remembering
an old man who used to help her out when she was in a bind..It seemed that
this man was their doctor, or at least in charge of what was going on for
now..Her eyes are alert and the feathers on her neck start to stand on end
with nerves..She's scared; new body, new everything..And she has no clue how
to use any abilities she could in her human body..It's completely thrown her
off.

The newly morphed kids and the lone ferret were allowed to leave the Clinic for the first time, so that they could recover from their ordeal in less stressful surroundings. It is in their first visit to the recreation room of their new 'home' that the morphs are given the chance to grow more accustomed to their new forms.

RP Log: Adjustment
You find yourself in a large, open room of roughly rectangular shape. The dull,
silver-grey tiled walls gleam in the cold white light of fluorescent tubes
embedded in the dark ceiling above, their accompanying perimeter lights
casting a greenish sheen upon the bare metal. Arranged throughout the room are
several game-tables and chairs, as well as tables for ping-pong and air
hockey. In one far corner of the room, a video game system has been hooked up
to a display mounted in the corner, and in the other, a few large beanbags
have been arranged around a modest collection of reading material. Nestled in
one side of a shallow alcove is a door leading out into an open lounge.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Belumine paces around the edge of the square room, treading a slow, deliberate
path. His hands are clasped behind his back, an anxious, worried look
plastered on his face. Every moment or so he steals a glance at the door, as
if waiting for someone to barge right on in. The ferret's tail flicks back and
forth, just as nervously as the ferret himself, in his plain white shirt and
shorts. His eyes sweep to the others in the room as well, his only real
comfort in his stupor. Finally, he flops down in one of the beanbag chairs,
twiddling his thumbs and fidgeting about. Barely a few minutes pass before
he's up again, pacing...

Aleyn seems rather bored and fidgety; at the moment he idly moves the puck
around the air-hockey table with the paddle. Perhaps he'd welcome another
player? Anything to get his mind off of the crushing inevitability everything
seems laced with here. He glances at Belumine when he paces nearby.

Skrap sits with a controller in her hands, smashing the buttons as best she can
with claws on each hand that..pff..-aren't- retractable. Finally, she hits
the start button, pausing the game, and sits back. She looks behind her at
the others, contemplating whether or not she should get up and risk smashing
things with her tail again. It was like having some strange vase-breaker
coming right out of her rear. Finally, she stands, fighting the urge to bite
her lip because of the sharp teeth in her mouth. It takes a bit of
concentration, but she weaves her way over to Aleyn, smiling at him as best
she can; it's a bit weird having lizard lips and she's sure it came out as
more of a 'grr I'mma eat you'.. She sighs and looks over at Belumine..The
ferret seems to need some cheering up..She wishes she was good at that kind of
thing, but she was only good with being a goof-ball. She looks at Aleyn and
picks up the other paddle, "Mind if I join you?" She asks, her voice breaking
the silence in sharp notes that kind of hang in the air.

Alex stands with his back leaned against the wall, staring blankly at the
ceiling. His feline tail flicks and sways from side to side idly, occasionally
bumping his leg and startling him lightly, just enough to make his fur
bristle. The feline morph wears just a pair of loose-fitting cargo shorts for
the time being, unable as of yet to tolerate anything more against his
sensitive fur. Spotting Aleyn's bored fidgeting with the hockey paddle, Alex
wanders over, albeit somewhat nervously, leaning against the table to steady
his still-uncertain sense of balance. Before he can manage to speak, however,
Skrap beats him to it, and with a sigh, he resorts to an unsteady attempt at
pacing the floors as Belumine is, trying to quell his frustration.

Marcus is just sitting in a beanbag chair, looking at a book in his paws but
not really reading it. He looks over at the others, and jumps slightly when
Belumine flops down in the next beanbag over from him. He offers a friendly
wave, but it seems to have gone unnoticed. "Hey, Mr..." he isn't sure who the
ferret-creature is yet, "You seem even more on edge than we are. Are you
alright?" He thinks back on his words, and realizes the answer is probably
no, anyway. In the end, he lets his eyes wander to the other morphs, the book
being completely forgotten.

Belumine glances back at Marcus, trying to hoist a friendly smile on his
muzzle. "Belumine Marus, though everyone calls me Belumine. I'm
just...confused? They kinda just keep leading me places, but I don't know why,
they don't tell me..." he stops all of a sudden, sighing a bit as he sweeps
his eyes first to Skrap and Aleyn, then to Alex, and back to Marcus. "I don't
even know who I am or what I'm even doing here. Kinda feels like I'm locked in
a dream, you know?" he says, ears flattening against his head. "Though...you
all kind of look confused yourselves, like you aren't used to being you." The
ferret resumes his pacing, more to give his body something to do than anything.

Aleyn blinks a little at Skrap's rather... unnerving smile, though he suppresses
his instinct and offers a small smile in return, recognizing it for what it
is. "Uh, sure," he replies, leaning down to switch on the air for the
tabletop. "Know how to play?" Noticing Alex wander over, he calls over to him,
"If you want, you can play the winner." He wouldn't say he's terribly used to
his body either--part of why he hasn't wandered much is that his feet feel
really strange to walk with--but being a simian morph, it's mostly like having
more fur and a tail. Like Alex, he goes shirtless, with just a pair of shorts.

Skrap is a bit surprised to see Alex come over to them, then walk off and
twitches her lips up in an attempt at a friendly gesture, "I don't mind giving
you the puck, I've never played before and have no clue how.." She sets the
paddle down, "It'd probably be better if I watched.." She looks over to
Belumine and looks a bit worried; He and Marcus were the two she didn't know
very well..Though she had talked to Marcus a bit, and Belumine seemed
completely new. She turns around thinking she'll try to change the channel on
the TV, and bumps the other airhockey table with her tail, causing it to slide
about six inches. She grabs the tip of her tail out of frustration and
imagines it like carrying a huge bag as she moves to the TV, "Maybe they've
got something other than propaganda on?" She says hopefully, "Or maybe
something informative?" She reaches up high and starts to mess with the TV as
best she can, realizing after a second that it was programmed on two channels;
static, and the game..Sighing, she steps back and bumps a chair.. Of
course..Then plops back on it out of sheer nerves and irritation, making
horrible faces at the TV.

"We're not." Alex replies to the ferret, having stopped in his tracks, spotted
back turned to him and Marcus. He turns around, making his way over to
Belumine, carefully, stopping a few paces in front of him. "This fur, this
tail, this whole body.. it's all new to me." he says. "I'm not quite sure who,
or what, I am anymore..." Alex trails off for a long moment, head lowered,
ears and whiskers splayed somewhat, before Aleyn's words finally sink in. He
offers a smile to the simian, trying and failing to prevent it from looking
fangy, and nods. "That would be great." he replies, "Maybe we could do a
tournament kinda thing?" He blinks, tilting his head in confusion in response
to Skrap's behavior. "I.. don't mind waiting if you want to play first. Just
for some reason I've felt lightheaded ever since they put this thing on me,"
he says, tugging at the odd-looking collar locked around his neck, "And I'm
trying to keep it off my mind."

Marcus nods at Belumine, "I wish it was nice to meet you, Belumine. But I fear
the circumstances may not be the best. As for us, well...you are right that
we aren't used to being in these bodies. I don't know how to explain it." He
hears Skrap's tail move the table, and he gets up and makes his way towards
her, "Skrap? Are you alright?"

Belumine perks his brow, clicking his tongue in confusion. "Wait, you
aren't...weren't...what you are now? What were you before? I thought everyone
had fur? Or at least, that's what I remember...or do I? Ah, I'm getting
confused all over again." he says, shortening his path to just a single wall
as he loses himself in deep thought. "Do any of you know exactly where I am? I
don't think I'm even on the same planet anymore, it feels like... But what was
my -real- planet like, in that case? Damn, damn, damn..." He runs a paw
through his headfur, tail swishing restlessly behind. "It's uhm, nice to meet
you too, err, what's your name?" he says to Marcus, eyes fixing on him.

Aleyn chuckles a bit at Skrap. "It's all right, I'll go easy on you..." He
trails off when she heads off, letting out a surprised chitter when she bumps
the air-hockey table. "Um... up to you, I guess." He bats the puck back and
forth in front of his goal with his paddle while he waits for an opponent. He
shrugs a little to Belumine... I mean, sure, it's really weird, but he's still
alive. And doing something besides thinking too hard about this is better than
letting it overtake him.

Skrap looks over at Belumine and frowns a bit, "Maybe air hockey will relax us
a bit..A tournament wouldn't be bad." She said, brightening, "I'll crap out
the first round, but I wouldn't mind playing." She stands up again and turns
her head so that she can see in front of, and behind her, watching her tail
and memorizing how it moved..Maybe this could be easier than she thought?
She'd watch it for a while and then eventually have it down..She makes her way
to the table again and grabs the paddle, giving Aleyn an apologetic look and
starting to hit the puck back to him for practice first.. "As long as you go
easy on me.." She mutters, trying not to smile as it seems to be a feat beyond
a raptor.

Alex smiles a little to Skrap, watching her take up the paddle once again.
"I'll play the winner of this round.. or someone else if anyone else wants to
play." he says quietly, an kind of melodic edge apparent in his voice. "We're
in a lab. That's all we can know for sure. They knocked us out before they
brought us in, so we never saw where they were taking us." Alex says to
Belumine with a flick of his tail. The feline morph flumps down in a beanbag
near the video game, taking up the controller awkwardly in his hands. "Mrrf..
claws, stay retracted." he mutters to himself, experimenting clumsily with his
grip.

Marcus makes it to the air hockey table, somewhat awkwardly with his brush
almost seeming like it is throwing him off balance, "I wouldn't mind a little
game. Maybe something to take my mind off things." He looks back at
Belumine, "Well, we used to be human, with any real fur. But then the people
here did...something to us. I don't know how they did it, but we are now
looking like this. I just want to be back to my normal self and back with my
parents again," he finishes, with a tear in his eyes.
