Welcome all, to the first issue of The Daily Dreamer. I am not sure how often these will be produced, but I will try to come up with an issue every now and again, unless someone would like to help me write articles.
Hurricane Baldwin Leaves Highway All Washed Up
After the Category 5 hurricane, so named Baldwin, ripped through the southern tip of Ministry territory on Tuesday, travelers were left with little choice but to detour into the unkempt gravel roads of the North Carolina Backcountry. Rumored to be home to everything from rebel armies to urban legends, the Salt Ridge Pass is the last place a Ministry citizen would want to get a flat tire.
"It's a real mess. I don't have a clue when the interstate'll be open again." remarks Senior Engineer Robert Bakely, whose team was recently put in charge of cleaning up the debris once the flood waters recede. "The best thing we can tell people right now is to avoid traveling in the area if at all possible." Experts believe the water should recede far enough to begin cleanup in about a week, but it could be up to a month before the highway will be again suitable for traffic.
(Alex)Ministry Announces Anti-Rebel CrackdownShortly after Hurricane Baldwin blew itself out on the North Carolina coastline, the Ministry's High Council announced it would be initiating a crackdown on the many hidden rebel strongholds found throughout its territory. "We'll raid every colony in the Union if we have to." asserts Bill Slavek, the Ministry's chief representative to the press.
The Ministry further comments that its Intelligence division has uncovered clues which could potentially lead to camps of rebels who as of yet have evaded its grasp. "We're confident their defenses will be down because of the storm, so we find that now may be the best time to take the offensive against these dangerous and militant individuals."
(Alex)Strange Voice Haunts Radios Throughout Southern TerritoriesAt about 4:13 AM on Saturday, reports began streaming in about an unusual radio broadcast heard on radios throughout the Ministry's southern territories. It lasted for several hours, and seemed to be on every known frequency, including television airwaves.
"It seemed very welcoming, in an odd sort of way." says one North Carolina man after his car radio started picking up the unusual signal on his way home from work. While authorities believe the pirate broadcast was likely a mere practical joke, citizens are asked to report any unusual or shady activity they see.
(Alex)OOC CornerTip From the GMsHello everyone. Alex here with the first tip from the GMs. This one is on character development, since I noticed a few people seem to be struggling with it. First off, it's not so important to have a really cool character, as it is to have one you can identify with. A character might seem cool to play, but where the real fun, and merit, lies is in how well the character is played. And to play a character truly well, you need to be able to get inside his or her head.
Secondly, a character's connection with the world he or she is living in is paramount. Such connections can come in the form of a rich backstory full of hallmark experiences, or just a really good idea of how the character will react to the events taking place now. It also helps you figure out what a character would already know, and what they wouldn't, which further lets you see through their eyes. Which is really the most important point. A good character is one who's point of view you can immerse yourself in, becoming that character while their story plays out.
And you're NOT railroaded in to some predefined destiny. Your character has influence in the grand scheme of things, even if it might not seem like it at the time. This is why we GMs strive so hard for a solid continuity. We don't want anyone getting locked into a predefined destiny, neither by our doing nor theirs.
(Alex)Player of the IssueI'm happy to announce the first Player of the Issue. We'll be giving out an award like this every time we create a new issue of the Daily Dreamer, each time featuring a player who has, in our opinion, gone above and beyond to make RP a success.
Aleyn
You see before you a pre-teen adolescent boy with a shock of red hair on his head, freckles on his fair complexion and hazel-colored eyes. He seems to have a bit of a paunch, but looks otherwise normal, and wears some simple blue-jeans and a greyish t-shirt.
This time, we feature Aleyn, for outstanding reliability while Y-13's pilot storylines are played out, not to mention excellent RP skills. Congrats, and keep up the good work!
